Last year’s theatre exchange was a great success and international invitations ensued including those to Fishamble Theatre Company’s Pride of Parnell Street (Wiesbaden) and Forgotten (Paris, Prague) and a German translation of Mark O’Rowe’s Terminus in a public rehearsed reading by Rachel West was presented at the recent New Plays from Europe Festival in Wiesbaden in collaboration with ITI.

About ITI’s International Theatre Exchange
It is presented annually as a networking event to coincide with the Dublin Theatre Festival and is a meeting place for invited international presenters and producers to engage with Irish producers, presenters and theatre artists. It is open to companies and artists with international touring credentials or ambitions (places are limited). Many contacts have been made and a number of Irish companies have toured internationally as a direct result of the event. Irish Theatre Institute is committed to serving the professional theatre and dance community both North and South.

Through its networking and promotional work abroad, Irish Theatre Institute identifies International presenters who are invited to Dublin each October to meet Irish producers and to see their work. ITI endeavours to invite presenters with a wide range of experience in presenting work and, importantly, people with a specific interest in or track record of presenting Irish work. Significant focus is placed on English language speaking territories (Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, UK) but increasingly productive relationships have been forged by companies and individual theatre artists in European countries including Germany, Romania, Poland and others. This reflects the global interest in contemporary and classical Irish theatre.

In 2008 the ITI event will retain is traditional features while introducing new exciting elements to enhance international touring opportunities. The format comprises:

  • Ms. Vanessa Redgrave interviewed by Fintan O'Toole;
  • Panel discussions on issues of relevant to the growing internationalisation of the arts e.g. showcasing, AustralAsian programming needs;
